Many Samsung Geeks naturally get very excited when new devices are released and would love nothing more than to be able to afford to purchase them all straight away. Unfortunately, however, most people do not have the cash on hand to be able to spend large amounts on new devices, particularly when you take into account the fact that the device is unlikely to remain ‘new’ for very long, such is the pace of dynamic advancements in technology.
The question then becomes; what is the best budget Samsung smartphone? In this article, to answer that question we will take a look at some of the options on offer to Samsung Geeks who do not want to break the bank in order to acquire a brilliant Samsung smartphone. We will look at the Samsung Galaxy Core 2, Trend 2 and Young 2.
Samsung Galaxy Core 2
Available on Amazon at under £100, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 is one of the first smartphones that price conscious Samsung Geeks should consider purchasing.
Coming in black and white colour variants, the Galaxy Core 2 features the Android 4.4 operating system and has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 768MB of RAM. There is also 4GB of internal storage, as well as expendable storage of up to 64GB through a microSD. Stylish and well-designed, the Galaxy Core 2 has a leather-like back cover design and a beautiful 4.5 inch display.
It also boasts a sizeable 2000mAh battery and a 5-megapixel rear camera. Moreover, in terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Core 2 offers plenty of options, including WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G and Micro-USB.
All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2, which was released by the South Korean electronics giant only just over a year ago in June 2014, is a superb choice for Samsung Geeks searching for a smartphone that offers great value for money.
Samsung Galaxy Trend 2
Known as the Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 outside of Europe, the Galaxy Trend 2 sells for roughly £85 and comes in a compact form, providing the user both comfort and portability. Including a 4 inch screen size, the smartphone’s design is as premium as is possible for a budget smartphone, while its exterior is sleek and stylish.
Running the Android 4.4 operating system, the Trend 2 is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor, facilitating smooth and swift downloads and media streaming that does not significantly drain the 1500mAh battery. Furthermore, the smartphone includes a five mega-pixel camera, has all the latest connectivity options and comes preloaded with Galaxy apps like ChatON, POLARIS Office and Kies.
In addition, there is a Lite version of the Samsung Galaxy Trend 2 available, which is priced approximately £15 cheaper at just under £70 on Amazon. The main differences are that the Lite version’s operating system in Android 4.1, it only has a 3 mega-pixel camera and its processor is single core, rather than dual core.
Samsung Galaxy Young 2
The Samsung Galaxy Young 2 is, as its name suggests, aimed at younger Samsung Geeks, perhaps even those using a smartphone for the first time. As a result, its screen size is a mere 3.5 inches, which is noticeably smaller than the Galaxy Core 2 and the Galaxy Trend 2.
However, like the aforementioned smartphones, the Galaxy Young 2 boasts the latest Android 4.4 operating system and also has a compact but fairly stylish design, with its leather-like back cover particularly appealing.
Admittedly, the Galaxy Young 2 only has a 1GHz single-core processor and the shortest battery life at 1300mAh. Moreover, the 3 mega-pixel camera is not in the same league as the cameras on the Core 2 and the Trend 2. However, on the plus side, it does come with eight free to download brand new Gameloft games, which will appeal to its target market, and, at a mere £50 at Argos, is the cheapest on offer too.
Conclusion: What is the best budget Samsung smartphone?
Coming back to the question posed at the start, namely, “what is the best budget Samsung smartphone?” the answer is, in my opinion, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2, which has the best specifications but admittedly is also the most expensive.
Thankfully, though, in its characteristic style, Samsung offers consumers plenty of choice, with the Galaxy Trend 2 and the Galaxy Young 2 also perfectly acceptable alternatives for Samsung Geeks with differing tastes and budgets.
